This week, something fairly extraordinary is coming to a conclusion in Canada.
As of December 2014, the Canadian National Firearms Association has orchestrated a nation-wide mass signature collection on a petition requesting the house of commons review magazine capacity restrictions as well as the classification of the AR15 platform. I’ve signed it, and I have pestered my friends, my family and anyone else I could think of into signing their ‘John Hancock’ as well.
Regardless of how you may feel about the ‘pinned menace’ that are our firearms laws, this petition is very important. It marks the first mass attempt in recent years to petition the government into doing anything even remotely conservative. In the past, I myself have been invited to sign a great many petitions for others, the majority of which made me literally gag in disgust. Every special interest group and crackpot religion out there petitions the government on a daily basis, while we right wingers sigh, roll our eyes and go about our busy, work-filled days.
Of course, this is always our first reaction. Shrug our shoulders, ‘tsk’ at the blatant waste of time and continue toiling to put bread on the table. Even though we have many qualms with today’s cosmopolitan, brainless society, nothing is really so blatantly intolerable to us that we feel the need to really ask for anything. We’d rather independently deal with problems ourselves… and sit around in small gatherings bitching about our frustrations at some local watering hole. It seems the honorable way, the independent way and the conservative way. But I hate to say it, this is surely the wrong way.
While we conservatives are sitting around in bars, grumbling to each other and complaining about how the firearms acts have become a complete and total farce, unbeknownst to us, the ‘Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster’ is making great strides toward becoming the official religion of the nation. It’s a real registered religion; if you don’t believe me, look it up. Considering that liberals have the energy and willpower to transform ‘jokes’ into reality, you’d think we’d have the initiative and determination to fight for our God-given rights and freedoms… even to a small degree. And yet, seemingly, we generally do not.
It’s a real registered religion…If you don’t believe me, look it up
Why is this?
Because we are too complacent, too quiet and too reserved. We frequently make small compromises and accommodate the leftists in order to save time and preserve the quality of our lifestyles. I truly feel that we conservatives of the North need to take a page from the book of our neighbors to the South, and remember that soft-spoken changes nothing.
All too often, we hear the derogatory jargon the media spouts about the NRA, the Tea Party and the Republican supporters, however, there is one important lesson to be learned from their actions.
They are doing something.
It seems to me that the exact opposite seems to hold true in the case of Canada. Every day, I hear about another march, an organized protest, more political lobbying or a petition for some left-wing, harebrained idea or group. Rarely, if ever, do I witness any organized effort or vocalized righteous indignation from our side of the lines. This is why I applaud the NFA for their actions.
They are doing something.
Their recent petitions are directed towards the improper classification of the AR15 as well as the laws pertaining to pinned magazines.
The AR15 platform has been targeted over the years and classified as a restricted, in spite of the fact that it is, by all definitions of the law, a non-restricted long-gun.
The only difference between this sport rifle and other semi-automatic sport rifles on the market is the fact that it looks ‘militaristic’ and threatening.
As for pinned magazines, since 1991, after Montreal’s École Polytechnique massacre, all magazines above a handgun cartridge have been legally required to be pinned to just 5 rounds. This, of course, limits one to firing five shots before having to reload; tedious and silly.
With all things considered, magazine swaps are easy to do, and the more criminally inspired individuals out there can easily (so I’ve heard) remove the pins with a few simple household tools.
The magazine capacity law as already failed. As we all know, criminals refuse to obey gun laws, and gun laws do nothing more than criminalize legal gun owners.
So while the multitudes of leftist activists petition to the highest courts in efforts to be allowed to ‘wear collanders on their heads‘ in legal identification documents, it is imperative that we conservatives band together also and proactively carry on the struggle that the NFA has initiated by way of this petition.
It’s groups like this that truly keep the night at bay, tirelessly watch-dogging our government and scrutinizing the laws it passes, giving us a an actual voice in parliament and protecting our liberty.
They are doing something.
It is so very important to be active in this fight. I encourage our readership to join local conservative groups, donate time and money, attend local meetings, educate yourself and, above all, pay attention!
If you are a gun owner, join the National Firearms Association or the Canadian Shooting Sports Association. If you are a Conservative, join the Conservative Party, If you’re and Albertan, join the Wild Rose or PC Party…
If you haven’t already, print out, sign and mail in the NFA Magazine Restriction and AR15 reclassification petitions –
They stop taking signatures on the 30th and I’m sure mail will still be pouring in within the next couple of weeks…
It’s up to us.
