This week tonight I want to talk about a single news event with a special significance to me. On Monday February 23rd I glanced upon a television screen in passing; it was in a Future Shop storefront display. There, before me once again, was the spectre of Vince Li, larger than life and twice as horrifying. Vince Li the cannibal… the fiend… Vince Li the demon. Without even being able to hear the news feed I immediately knew the subject of discussion: more freedoms to be granted, more liberty for a man who should no longer even exist.
Now, if you know my views on this subject, you know how reprehensible I find the misguided morality surrounding Vince Li and his handlers. If you’re unfamiliar with this, you ought to read my article.
To speak succinctly, I think the whole Vince Li horrorshow is a signifier for a larger problem in the world today. It’s part of a pervasive socialist farce being conducted by the mental health franchise, by the media, and by big government; it’s part of a Zeitgeist of moral decay. It reeks of corruption and the ruination of moral societal foundations.
But I diverge. On February 23rd, 2015 it was declared that Vince Li had made more great strides in his recovery from schizophrenia. The hand in the sock of Li’s brain which caused him to become a homicidal maniac had been quelled. The three squares a day, the comfortable accommodations, the field trips into the city, the romantic walks on beaches and, of course, the drugs being shovelled into his mouth on a daily basis did absolute wonders for him. Huge sums of public money have made a new man of Li, it would seem. Vince Li, it turns out, is actually a great guy, and a “model patient” at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre: he’s practically rehabilitated! At least, this is what the media would have us believe.
And as a reward, Li’s psychiatrists want his restrictions loosened still further. Their ultimate vision is a Vince Li living a semi-normalized, uninhibited and carefree life, a life of publicly subsidized leisure… forever. Let’s all forget what Li did, because he’s a completely reformed man. And a man needs his freedom, doesn’t he?
Li’s psychiatrist, Dr. Steven Kremer, told a criminal code board review hearing Monday that Li has shown “profound improvement” and is at low risk to reoffend. Risk assessments done by several other doctors came to the same conclusion, the board heard. Mackenzie told the hearing “We want to give Vince Li the highest level of independence as we possibly can.”
Shame on you Dr. Kremer. Shame on all the quack specialists involved in this disgusting dog and pony act. “Doctor” Kremer, you see, has proposed that Li be moved from the mental institution in which he now resides to a Winnipeg hospital. From there, eventually, he will be delivered to a community group home. “Gradual reintegration of people not criminally responsible”, they call it. Alan Libman, Li’s lawyer, said there is “no reason not to accept these recommendations”. But I can think of some reasons. Each of the people’s lives destroyed by Vince Li is a reason and justice is another.
This latest recommendation is just another progression in a series of gradual movements to liberate Vince Li. Last year ‘doctors’ authorized “unescorted passes into the city of Selkirk.” Li was expected to carry a cell phone on his person “and check in with hospital staff every 30 minutes”. Prior to this Li was being escorted around Lockport, Winnipeg by mental facility staff in white coats. Like a diplomat touring an exotic city he visited the beaches, wandered some walking paths, had a drink or two. I am reminded of the movie Harvey, starring Jimmy Stewart, for a number of reasons.
Can no one see what’s wrong with this situation? Can nobody put a stop to it? Like a bad dream Vince Li is rapidly slipping through the cracks, steadily hurtling towards full freedom. And the psychiatrists are pulling out all the stops to hasten his emancipation.
But the most overlooked and disturbing factor underscoring all of this is that it’s all oddly reminiscent of past events. Vince Li, you see, was admitted to a mental hospital once in the past… before killing Timothy Mclean.
That’s right. Although never mentioned by the liberal media (clearly in efforts to obfuscate the truth), Vince Li was actually admitted and held in a mental facility in Ontario where he refused treatment for his illness. In other words, he was cognizant that he had a problem, but willfully ignored it and continued deliberately on his downward spiral . He apparently ‘distrusted Western medicine’ and refused to see a doctor.
His issues started as early as 2004 (keeping in mind that the slaying did not occur until July 30th, 2008). He started hearing voices and would “go several days without sleep or food”. He had crying jags and started seeing hallucinations of God. In September 2005, the unemployable Li found himself in Toronto looking for work. God told him to walk to Winnipeg on foot and to throw away his luggage onto the highway. Toronto police were dispatched to collect him and he was found shambling down Highway 427 just north of Toronto in a disoriented state. He was arrested under a mental health warrant and
…was taken to a psychiatric facility in west Toronto. Doctors suggested he stay in the facility for at least a month for a full psychiatric assessment. The circumstances surrounding Li’s release from the facility are unclear. Li claimed he “escaped” and there is no discharge note on his file. It is now believed that he refused treatment and left against the advice of his doctor. He was prescribed medications for his condition, but was never formally diagnosed with a disorder.
So let’s summarize here. Medical ‘professionals’ have botched Li’s care in the past, allowing Li, a paranoid schizophrenic, to wander out of a medical facility while under a mental health warrant. Vince Li, requiring at least a month of treatment stumbled away with no official discharge report being filed. Let’s furthermore be clear: Vince Li actively avoided medical support and willfully allowed himself to deteriorate over four years. He distrusted Western medical science and refused to take his medications in the past. And finally, let’s conclude: the mainstream media has consistently depicted Vince Li as a victim, as a man who suddenly and without warning succumbed to random madness. A cloud of schizophrenia descended upon Li’s head one day, making him do terrible things. The media would have us believe it was all unpredictable, unavoidable and sudden.
History repeats itself and, mark my words, it will happen once again. At the rate things are going Vince Li will be released and living a comfortable existence in suburban Winnipeg In just a few short years. From there he will undoubtedly recommence his downward spiral. He’ll become complacent, as the ‘healthy’ often do, and forget his meds. Or he will decide that the Zyprexa clouds his mind and will begin to decrease his dosages intentionally. Or he’ll remember his Chinese heritage and opt to find treatment at the hands of an acupuncture therapist instead. Recidivism will set in. He’ll wander away once more, but this time with no cell phone or handlers or fluorescent smock, and then what? God or the Devil will be calling the shots again and society at large will suffer.
