This week, we have seen the world spiral closer and closer to a renewed war between major powers.
It has been decades since we have seen international super-powers face off as much as they have in the past few months – War has always (and will continue to ad infinitum) rage in the Middle East, so that’s entirely of no consequence in the grand geo-political scheme of things, but Russia’s incursions into Ukraine and continuing face-off with the West is reeking of Cold War fear and nostalgia.
This week Russian aggression struck a new low, when under the curtain of a cease fire with the government in Kiev, Putin moved 50 heavy tanks and 40 armored missile systems into Ukraine (http://uk.businessinsider.com/ukraine-50-russian-tanks-and-40-missile-systems-rolled-into-the-country-while-putin-talked-peace-2015-2?r=US).
As the new military units entered the fray, firefights erupted and continue to rage all over the besieged town of Debaltseve. While leaders all over the world talk about avoiding war and steps towards peacekeeping, those in touch with reality are cognizant of the fact that war has already begun.
“War?! Is no War… Is Armored Landscaping,Yes?”
Putin has invaded a neighboring country, and in the interests of protecting our own self-interests, the West pretends as though these incidents are ‘minor’ and ‘only the beginning’. All the while, the death toll is now in the thousands – how many dead must there be before we can call a “War” a “War”.
“OK OK, Maybe little bit War….”
Ukraine has been forced to announce that it is preparing for ‘full scale’ war (https://ca.news.yahoo.com/ukraine-preparing-full-scale-war-120000410.html), and there are now reports from humanitarian institutions that Russia is implementing Conscription protocols to increase their military numbers in illegally occupied territories (https://ca.news.yahoo.com/fears-arise-among-russian-conscripts-over-being-sent-122910017.html).
One man who seems to be on the ball these days however is the King of Jordan –
He made headlines in the past few weeks as an iron leader, personally directing attacks into ISIL held areas and vowing to never cease until he runs out of fuel or ammunition. One can only hope that the international community will feel generous enough to ensure that he never does.
“The only problem we’re going to have is running out of fuel and bullets.”
Sadly, it took the brutal death of his nation’s pilot Moaz Kassabeh to bring his wrath, but if there’s a silver lining to Kassabeh’s horrifying death, this is it. What is truly sad is that Jordan, a country of roughly only 7 million people is the main defender against the worldwide threat of ISIL (http://www.npr.org/blogs/parallels/2015/02/23/388456448/jordans-army-preps-for-a-bigger-role-against-isis).
Closer to home, ISIL threatened multiple targets worldwide – one of which was West Edmonton Mall. As horrifying as it is to think that there may be an attack at home, comparable to the recent Ottawa shooting, I can only imagine the futility of such an attack in a region of this nation where non-restricted rifles outnumber people 3 to 1. On another note, at least something exciting may actually happen in West Ed for once…
Trudeau is maintaining significant silence after FactsCan revealed a damning report regarding the incorrect information in his recent anti-gun campaigns. FactsCan has called out the Liberal party for sensationalizing and fear mongering . Obviously, if you are involved in gun culture at all in Canada, his recent ads regarding the new ‘authorization to transport’ laws (which actually only revert the laws back to their original state after the RCMP illegally changed without consulting parliament last year) made your jaw drop, but an unbiased institution like FactsCan can help confirm the integrity or deceit regarding politically motivated advertising campaigns – in this case, deceit (http://factscan.ca/2015/02/13/justin-trudeau-bill-c-42-would-allow-handguns-and-assault-weapons-to-be-freely-transported-even-left-parked-outside-a-canadian-tire-or-local-hockey-arena/).
Completely false fear mongering campaign by Trudeau’s Liberals – and that’s not the opinion of the Sun News – thats the opinion of non-partisan fact-checking institution FactsCan.
Touching on the subject of the RCMP, an inquiry into the conduct of officers in High River came to the conclusion that our Federal Police acted in the wrong when they used ‘smash and grab’ tactics to unlawfully confiscate legally owned firearms from evacuated houses during the flooding crisis of 2013.
RCMP Superintendant Smart was named as the officer who ordered officers to proceed with what is now known as the ‘High River Gun Grab) – a class action law suit may be in the works, but tempers are still flaring as more residents are coming forward with claims of other misconduct, such as the raiding of fridges and underwear drawers – as well as smash and grabs from homes completely unaffected by the flooding, leaving doors and windows ajar for the elements to destroy what would have otherwise been protected (http://www.edmontonsun.com/2015/02/13/mistakes-made-by-rcmp-in-high-river-gun-grab-report).
And ending on a positive note, Harper and the Conservatives are way ahead in the polls. Considering Factscan is pursuing Liberal ad campaigns for the authenticity of their content and the NDP continue to make outlandish and laughable demands – such as increasing the liberally inclined CBC’s government funding to more than a Billion Dollars (which is roughly what they receive at present), while Conservative broadcasting institutions like ‘The Sun News Network’ go under due to lack of funding, Harper and the Tories stand to continue gaining ground.
The NDP also brought forth aggressive tactics towards the Conservative’s new Bill, affectionately named ‘Quanto’s Law’ in honor of Quanto, an Edmonton police dog stabbed to death in 2013, intending to provide harsher penalties to better protect law enforcement animals, military animals and service animals and to ensure that offenders who harm those animals are held fully accountable. The NDP countered by claiming that all animals should have the same rights as humans, to the detriment of hunters, sealers, anglers, farmers, and medical researchers (http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2015/02/18/robert-sopuck-ndp-animal-rights-agenda_n_6706792.html).
“These harmless, defenceless creatures deserve the same protection that we
afford to children and people with mental or physical disabilities,”
-NDP MP Boivin
Although I’m sure most can agree that domestic animals and wildlife do need to be afforded more protection under the law, the idea of providing them the same rights and protections as humans is ludicrous. The percentage of individuals in Canada becoming alienated by the left continue to grow, with 32% of the country (gun owners) almost always forced to vote Conservative. And now anyone liberally inclined whose livelihood is involved in hunting, fishing , farming and even medical research are now having to rethink their political options…
