Middle east still in chaos and the world is joining it.
Not much of a headline, seeing as it can refer to any day in the last 15 years. The Islamic State continues its warpath with a battle plan that seems to include near daily dramatic executions. Most recently a video showing the beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians.
I wonder what the true intent of making such over the top barbaric acts purposely “viral” is? To strike fear in the heart of your enemies? Psychological warfare? An attempt to recruit more followers to a ‘winning’ cause or perhaps just the hemorrhaging hysterics of a failing ideology.
Regardless IS; or perhaps more importantly the spread of IS ideology, is a threat to international peace and security. The recent attacks in Paris, Canada and just days ago in Denmark are clear examples.
Today the Egyptian government has started it’s own airstrikes in Libya joining countries like Jordan in the fight to bring stability back to the Middle east. Hell even the notorious Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah has called for the eradication of IS! I hope the western world takes heed and helps support the fight despite our vast differences.
Particularly we should be calling on the United States. You want to keep troops off the ground? Send as many fighting supply’s to Jordan as you can spare. We know Israel would fight such a decision tooth and nail but there must be a way to defeat this threat and keep that ‘Qualitative Military Edge policy‘ in tact with Israel.
Besides a easy argument could be made that the US had a part in creating this monster, it’s time to take more of a hand in destroying it. As they say; the best of us lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.
High River and the RCMP firearms Saga
In what is likely to be the last chapter in the nearly a two year fight between local High River residents and the RCMP. RCMP Civilian Review and Complaints Commission has released their findings.
There really is not much to talk about here that hasn’t already been said. The findings found that in several cases the RCMP breached Canadian law by entering homes, sometimes ones knowingly unoccupied, for the sole purpose of confiscating firearms or other items deemed to be unsafe. It recommend some remedial training measures and that officers take better notes.
I know people are calling for blood on this one, but folks, it’s not going to happen! Criminal charges against individual RCMP members would be near impossible in this scenario. I guess some high river members could band together to file a law suit, but you better have a hell of a lot of conviction, time and even deeper pockets.
What we can take away here is simply another example that the voice of the people mean nothing, squashed and muted in the name of safety. Even if the danger is water days receded.
Happy democracy everybody.
The Ukraine cease fire
A crisis that is sadly mostly unnoticed in the west. The Ukraine’s war against rebel forces (Russia) has now cost thousands in lives and an untold amount of destruction.
This week the Governments involved sat down and nailed out a temporary cease-fire that includes the creation of a demilitarized zone and the withdrawal of troops from both sides.
Hard to say how this one will pan out. If you will remember the first cease-fire crumbled back into war in mere hours. Today was the first official day of the new agreement, so far there have been reports of at least 140 breaches and sightings of more Russian equipment moving in than out, but all in all both sides are showing some level of restraint.
I pray this is in fact the end of major hostilities though I fear the true purpose of this aggression has yet to be revealed.
